It was very early on that Mark Wolf developed a passion for music. At five he began to play the guitar and would sing his own first compositions.
Some years later Wolf participated in the qualifying examination at Salzburg's famous University of Music and Dramatic Arts "Mozarteum". Wolf was to study there for seven years. His first singing teacher was Kammersänger Prof. Karl Christian Kohn from the "Bayrische Staatsoper" in Munich. Wolf also attended several master classes with singing legends such as Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Sena Jurinac and Inge Borkh. Germany's leading baritone at the time, Hermann Prey, heard Wolf in Vienna, and invited him to take part in different joint ventures, such as at the "Schubertiade" in the Vienna Musikverein.
During the first years of his career he concentrated on the music of W.A.Mozart and studied and sang all the major opera roles including Figaro, Don Giovanni, Leporello, Sarastro and Osmin. He was at the age of 28, one of the youngest Sarastros ever to be heard on television. With a repertoire of Mozart, Schubert, Verdi, Bellini, Rossini, Brahms and Bach he sung hundreds of solo recitals, and his varied career has extended into musicals such as "Jesus Christ Superstar", in which he appeared with the “New York Broadway Ensemble” on its European tour. One of Wolf’s greatest interests is in Lieder, especially the Lied cycles of Franz Schubert such as "Winterreise", "Schwanengesang" and "Die schöne Müllerin".
Wolf possesses an extraordinary singing voice that has a range over several octaves from basso profondo to high soprano. An ability unique among singers today, it has led him to be considered a voice miracle by leading voice doctors and researchers. At the 250th anniversary celebration of Mozart's birth, during the "Salzburg Festival" an entire wall at the museum "Haus der Natur" was devoted to the multi-faceted voice of Mark Wolf.
Today Wolf is working on art and music projects in the USA and Europe and directs his own music videos. |
